The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl

1681624-inline-inline-1-the-awkward-ascensionHave you ever watched a program and felt like you’d somehow met your “TV soul mate” – where your taste, views and humour were so in line with a show that you felt like the creator must have been reading your thoughts? Well, that’s how I feel about writer and producer Issa Rae’s The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl, an online program that follows the trials and tribulations of the lead character “J”, played by Rae, and a ragtag team of friends and coworkers – many of whom drive her crazy.

I’m very much hoping that there is a season 3 of the show, or an ABG movie.

Issa…your fans are waiting for more!

What can I say about Emeli Sandé? This woman’s voice is so clear and stunning – check out, in particular, YouTube clips of her singing acoustic versions of Next To Me – you will wonder why she hasn’t yet blown up in North America.

Not only are the melodies beautiful and memorable, but so are the lyrics, especially for Next To Me and Suitcase. Her album, Our Version of Events is a “must hear”.

I love Next To Me  so much, I sing an acoustic version of her song as part of my set list when performing for a gig. I wish I could take credit for writing such an amazing song.

I’ve really been enjoying Amanda de Cadenet’s fabulous interview series and the many resources included on her website, The Conversation.

Any woman who seeks to stimulate great and honest conversations about issues of concern to women (and men too!) deserves support.

It’s a beautiful website, informative, and ambitious.
